Musician Extraordinaire Earns Prestigious Scholarship

Freeport High School junior Skye Hamilton Carranza has been recognized for his outstanding musical talents. He has achieved the distinction of winning a full scholarship to USDAN School of Performing Arts on behalf of the Nassau Music Educators Association for the summer of 2014.
     
Skye’s main instrument is the oboe, however he is also fluent on all saxophones as well as percussion. Skye has been a member of NMEA’s Division 2 band, as well as Division 4 and 5 for vocal. He has performed as a member of the pit for Freeport High School’s musical productions including In the Heights and Once on This Island.  
    
He has also been a member of the Nassau Suffolk Performing Arts group as an oboist in the Youth, Honor and Concert Bands. In Skye’s free time, he is a member of the Silva Dance Academy as well as an instrumentalist and music composer at Brimstone Productions.
