As part of its commitment to ensuring that all students are developing the skills necessary in solving mathematical problems and equations as swiftly as possible, Giblyn has designed a variety of creative activities for students.

As the result of an effort spearheaded by school math specialist Pat Vollkommer, the school’s hallways have been decorated with math problems. With dry-erase markers in hand, these grade-appropriate exercises allow students to work together in solving the equations. In addition, on one Friday per month, the math period in all classes is devoted to learning a new specific skill that is needed to problem-solve, such as Draw a Picture. During this time, students learn strategy and have the opportunity to implement it themselves. The teachers then provide daily problems for students to practice and perfect the skill.
