The high school Student Government held the Breaking Borders Symposium and Holiday Gift Wrap for Adopt-A-Family on Dec. 12, under the leadership of Joshua Levitt and Josè Ortiz.

This year, Freeport hosted five high schools across Nassau County, including Syosset, Amityville, Elmont and Oyster Bay. Levittown and Hicksville school districts sent principals to observe.

Breaking Borders began four years ago with seven students from Freeport High School and Syosset High School, who met together to discuss different topics that focused on differences and similarities. Students also shared opinions on issues of topical interest. This year, a total of 115 students participated in the event.
