Freeport Public Schools

Freeport High School instituted a lockdown for a brief period of time Friday afternoon, February 10. This essentially means students were not permitted to change classes and access to and from the building was restricted.

The lockdown occurred according to our student safety response plan after a report of a weapon in the building. A student was found to have a knife and will face appropriate disciplinary action. There was no confrontation, however, or threat of violence at any time.

Freeport Police were on the scene, and have investigated the matter as well.

We continue to have a zero tolerance policy for weapons at Freeport High School, and do everything we can to promote a safe and supportive environment for our students.
