WELCOME TO A MEETING OF YOUR BOARD OF EDUCATION
Thank you for your interest in our school system and its operations. We hope this brochure will help you understand the governance of the School District. We welcome your input at all Board meetings, and are pleased to be working with you to provide excellence in education for all of our children.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Freeport School Board of Education (the “Board”) is the corporate body that oversees and manages the affairs, personnel, and properties of the Freeport Public Schools. The members of the Board are elected to three-year terms by the residents of the school district. The Board is considered a corporate body, a term which indicates that the School Board is treated as a corporation, a legal entity that is distinct and apart from its members and has the capacity for continuous existence without regard to changes in its membership. As such, the legality of the Freeport School Board’s contracts, as well as the validity of its policies and resolutions, do not depend on individual members. Board members take official action only by majority vote at an official meeting.
