Additional members are being sought for the Freeport Public Schools' Finance Budget Advisory Committee, which is charged with assisting the Board of Education by making recommendations regarding the preparation of the 2005-06 school district budget, and future budgets.
The broad-based committee is representative of the Freeport community, and includes educators, parents, students, former board members, senior citizens, homeowners, tenants, veterans, business people and finance expertise individuals. At this time, the district is inviting applications under various categories - educator, homeowner, tenant, parent (special education/gifted & talented), finance and business owner (resident of Freeport).
Applications are available online at the district's website, www.freeportschools.org, and at the Freeport Memorial Library, the Freeport Recreation Center, the Freeport Chamber of Commerce, the Freeport Administration Building, and with PTA and SEPTA leadership. Applications must be returned by November 29 to Kishore Kuncham, Assistant Superintendent for Business, 235 N. Ocean Avenue, Freeport NY 11520. If there are more applicants than the committee is able to seat, membership will be decided by a lottery.
Serving on the committee represents a serious commitment on the part of members, who will be asked to develop an understanding of the budget process and the educational and financial needs of the district, and meet regularly beginning in early December through April 2005. There will be at least eight evening meetings during this period. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Kuncham at 867-5212.
