The Freeport Board of Education has
reestablished its Finance/Budget Advisory Committee of community residents.
Members of the committee, inactive for about a year, have been invited
to serve again, and in addition, the Board seeks other parents and homeowners
who have not previously been members to serve.
The charge
of the committee is to assist the Board of Education by making recommendations
regarding the preparation of the 2003-04 school district budget and future
budgets. The committee membership is limited to 22 residents of the school
district, representing as many varied interests as possible, such as senior
citizens, parents, educators, homeowners, business owners and high school
students. Serving on the committee represents a serious commitment on
the part of members, who will be asked to develop an understanding of
the budget process and the educational and financial needs of the district,
and meet regularly beginning this December 15th. October 30th
is the deadline for applications.
Interested
residents are invited to contact the office of the Assistant Superintendent
for Business, Mr. Kishore Kuncham, at 867-5212 for further information
about applying for vacant seats on the Committee. If there are more applicants
than the Committee is able to seat, membership will be decided by a lottery.
