Outstanding Scholars Lead Freeport High School Class Of 2006

Members of the Freeport High School graduating class of 2006 will assemble in their eye-catching traditional red and white caps and gowns at Sunday, June 25 Commencement Exercises on George F. Emma Field. They will be addressed by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eric L. Eversley, FHS Principal Kimberlee Pierre and leaders of their class.

The outstanding class of 2006 has been offered close to $2 million in scholarships and received acceptances from such prestigious colleges and universities as Penn State, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, NYU, Temple, Northeastern, Fordham, George Washington, Tuskegee and Syracuse. Freeport seniors were accepted at the U.S. Air Force and Naval Academies, and virtually every SUNY College and University. These colleges and universities will benefit from the unique Freeport outlook and sensibility our students carry with them.

Freeport High School senior Heidi Bonilla is among students selected nationwide as a Gates Millennium Scholar. The scholarships recognize "exceptional academic and leadership achievements."

Students at Freeport’s Caroline G. Atkinson School will partner with Freeport senior citizens to teach them how to use computers over the next three months.

From parent involvement to community outreach, math lessons at Archer Street School in Freeport extend beyond the curriculum—and beyond the classroom walls. During the recent Family Math Night, more than 350 parents and students gathered to take part in a host of fun learning activities.

Students parade out the alphabet to demonstrate line symmetry with letters.  Freeport students have made tremendous strides in their collective success on state assessments, earning recognition by the New York State Education Department for their performance in math and English. This year, the district’s fifth graders have been working harder than ever, sharpening their skills in preparation for the new grade five state mathematics assessment.
