Freeport... The School District/Community Relationship

The board of education is committed to developing positive methods of communication both to inform the community and to learn from it.  The Board of Education has commissioned a number of community-based advisory committies to assist it with special issues.  This framework for shared decision-making by teachers, parents, students, administrators and community members is enabling all who have a stake in the future of our School District to have a say in it.

Some of the committee are: Citizens Finance Advisory Committee, Scholarship and Honors Advisory Board, Adult Education Advisory Board, Facilities Task Force, Short Term Space Impact Study Group, Magnet School Task Force, and the Theme School Study Group.

Community Use of School Facilities

Freeport schools and facilities are primarily used by students for their learning.  School buildings and playing fields can be used by community organizations and groups for activities that are educational, cultural, recreational or civic in nature, and primarily for the benefit of School District residents.  The use of these facilities is governed by the regulations adopted by the Board of Education.

Community groups and organizations may apply for permits to use school facilities by paying appropriate fees and applying to:

Mr. Timothy O'Donnell,
Director of Facilities, Freeport Public Schools
235 North Ocean Avenue
Freeport, NY, 11520
516-867-5200
