The enclosed K-12 curricula mapping efforts, represent the initial phase of an ongoing curricula alignment project in the subject areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. These efforts have been, and continue to be, driven by the New York State Standards, subject areas course revisions and revised examination formats. In addition, faculty understanding of major themes and concepts encourages effective content pacing and in-depth coverage of appropriate thematic issues. Faculty awareness of appropriate curricula maps heightens their ability to effectively communicate the mpractice encourages student skill development and content area understandings while maximizing instructional time.ajor themes, concepts and skills to their student population. Faculty awareness translates to increased student's time on task, which results in their in-depth understanding and ability to meet the challenges of the revised standards and assessments. Another benefit of the mapping process is its ability to encourage faculty created interdisciplinary approaches. The second phase of the district's curricula mapping efforts will be the utilization of mapping software. The software builds upon the initial phase to provide ongoing curricula alignment and evaluative assessments, based upon the specific subject areas' national and state standards. |
