Following an alleged arson that severely damaged the "woodworks" playground at Bayview Avenue School in Freeport , plans are already underway to begin the replacement process. The damaged equipment was fully insured.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eric L. Eversley said that the District will install a new playground at the school, incorporating the latest safety and construction codes and utilizing the most desirable materials currently recommended for school play equipment. As planning progresses, the School District will issue updates to parents and the community.
Meanwhile, the School District is working closely with the Freeport Police Department and the Nassau County Fire Marshall's Office to assist in their investigations. Dr. Eversley thanked the Village of Freeport for their work in dismantling the damaged equipment and cleaning the site.
