Magnet School Information Meeting January 14 For Families Of Freeport Kindergartners

Will it be Archer, Bayview, Giblyn or New Visions? In a few months, kindergarten parents and guardians will be choosing one of Freeport 's four Magnet Schools for their children to attend as first graders in September 2004.

On Wednesday, January 14, at 7 p.m. at Columbus Avenue School , 150 N. Columbus Avenue , there will be a Magnet School Presentation and Parent Information meeting to help families of kindergartners begin the process. For more information about the meeting, call the Magnet Schools office at 867-5227.

While each of these four grade 1-4 schools have a distinct theme and philosophy that make learning memorable, all share the same emphasis on New York State standards and curriculum-and all have highly trained teachers and administrators to guide students. Federal and state grants have funded ongoing staff and program development.

Archer Street School is a microsociety where children develop academic skills in language arts, mathematics and technology as they use multimedia to create and run their own businesses. Bayview Avenue School of Arts and Sciences has classrooms, studios and laboratories-not to mention a full-size auditorium-that provide students with the opportunity to become practicing artists and scientists. Leo F. Giblyn School:

A Passport to Learning is steeped in international surroundings. Each child receives a passport that records his or her academic adventures and inquiries in this global community of students. New Visions School of Exploration and Discovery is a museum school, in which students showcase their project-based learning in many ways. Their new Raynor Street home provides high level technology and a variety of settings that support their museum studies and partnerships.

In March, all four schools will hold open houses so that families can view the schools first-hand.
