Daniel Okobi, a senior at Freeport High School , has been named a semifinalist in both the National Merit and National Achievement Scholarship competitions. He qualified for both competitions based on his PSAT/NMSQT scores.
As a National Merit semifinalist, he will go on to compete for one of 8,000 National Merit Scholarships this spring. Only 16,000 of the 1.3 million high school juniors who entered the program last year moved on to become semifinalists. |

The National Achievement Scholarship competition provides recognition to outstanding Black American high school seniors. Daniel is one of approximately 1,600 semifinalists who were selected from more than 120,000 high school juniors who entered this competition. He will go on to compete for one of 775 National Achievement Scholarships to be awarded this spring.
These are only two of many academic honors Daniel has already received. Last year he received the Harvard Alumni Award, the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, the Rensselaer Mathematics and Science Award, and the George Washington University Medal. He was also an AMC12 winner in the American Mathematics Competition. |
