The Freeport Police Benevolent Association held its 12th Annual Toys for Tots drive this year. With donation money from members, the P.B.A. purchased 10 shopping carts full of big-item toys from Toys-R-Us. The organization also collected toys from Family and Friends of the P.B.A. Additional toys were donated from the U.S.M.C. Toys for Tots program, the Freeport Chamber of Commerce and Sherman Specialties of Freeport.
The toys were distributed to 100 Freeport families. The Freeport School District helped the P.B.A. identify needy families from Archer Street, Bayview Avenue, New Visions and Leo F. Giblyn Schools.
Next year the P.B.A. hopes to expand the program to include families from Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Center and Caroline G. Atkinson School.
