Freeport Public Schools has announced the appointment of Alma Rocha to the position of Assistant Principal at Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Center. A dual-language teacher at Columbus Avenue since 1999, she completed an administrative internship in the Freeport School District in 2002.
Originally from Mexico, Rocha studied at the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City, where she received a bachelor's degree in psychology. She came to the United States in 1986 and continued her education at Hofstra University, where she earned a master's degree in early childhood education. She completed her School District Administration Certificate at C.W. Post College in 2003, and is currently working towards her bilingual credentials at St. John's University. |

Prior to her work in Freeport Schools, Rocha taught at the Child Care Institute at Hofstra University and at the Rosa Lee Young Childhood Center in Rockville Centre.
Rocha is a member of Nassau County Elementary School Principals' Association and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
A resident of Freeport, Rocha is an active member of the Freeport community and the Freeport PTA. She is a choir member, marathon runner and photographer. She has also traveled to Canada, Mexico and Europe. |
