FHS WINS THE L.I. CHALLENGE

Bayview Avenue Students Read to Raise Funds for the Red Cross

The Bayview Avenue School in Freeport celebrated its 11th annual American Red Cross Read-A-Thon. Second-graders raised nearly $1600 by soliciting pledges from family and friends. The more they read, the more they raised.

In a special assembly, students wearing red and white Read-A-Thon sashes sang songs and recited poems honoring the work of the Red Cross and the importance of reading. Proud students presented a giant check for $1588.85 to Richard W. Dalrymple, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross in Nassau County. Mr. Dalrymple presented plaques to the three top fundraisers, Skye Carranza, Dominique White and Alex Gold.

"We are proud to be a learning, reading, writing and giving school," said teacher Cheryle Isreal, coordinator of the event. "I am grateful to all students who worked so hard, and to all the parents who support your children as scholars and citizens."
