About 50 eager new teachers spent several days in Freeport Schools recently, listening to orientation tips, touring the village, and hearing about the district’s ongoing successes, current challenges and future goals from administrators, including Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eric L. Eversley.
“I commend you on being a wise, intelligent person for picking this school district to affiliate yourself with,” Dr. Eversley told the teachers at an early morning gathering at Dodd Middle School. “ Freeport is a great, great place. You will have the honor to work with the young people and families of this wonderful community.” |

Describing the school district as “consistently moving toward higher and higher levels of excellence,” Dr. Eversley encouraged the new teachers to “be reflective about the work you do now. The quality of life in your classroom and the relationships you develop with students and families are critical. There is no substitute for caring—that has to be the core that drives what we do.”
The first day of school in Freeport is Tuesday, September 6. For the third year, it is also “Take Your Parent to School Day,” when parents are encouraged to visit the schools, attend a class with their child and receive important and useful information. |
