FHS WINS THE L.I. CHALLENGE

Giblyn Students Get Personal "Thank You" from Army Major Who Served in Iraq

When he found out that the students at Leo F. Giblyn in Freeport organized a penny drive that raised over $4500 to purchase USO care packages for our troops in Iraq, Army Major Max Moore decided to pay a visit to the school to thank them personally for their fundraising efforts.

Major Moore, who served in Iraq from November 2002 to July 2003, recalled how important it was for him to receive these care packages when he was far from home. "You have no idea how much your gifts will be appreciated by the soldiers in Iraq," he said to the students.

Major Max Moore, U.S. Army, paid a special visit to Leo F. Giblyn School in Freeport to thank students for raising $4500 to buy USO care packages for soldiers in Iraq. He is pictured here, from left with third-graders Stephanie Laos, Martin Davidson, Tiara Dabney , Larry Lucas and Glenda Rivera.
During his visit, Major Moore helped students get a glimpse of Army life, with a slide presentation showing uniforms, tanks, and maps of all the places he's been stationed in the Army. He ended his presentation with a question and answer period.
