Freeport Librarians Make Presentation At County-wide Meeting
|
Freeport High School Library and Media Specialist Rose Luna addresses
more than 50 school librarians at a meeting of the Nassau BOCES School
Library System in Massapequa Park, September 23. Ms. Luna, accompanied by
seven of her librarian colleagues from the Freeport schools, showed the
group the PowerPoint presentation that the Freeporters had produced for a
meeting of the district's school board.
The presentation was highlighted
as a model of its kind that librarians in other districts could use as a
way of introducing opinion leaders in their districts and communities to
the many services the contemporary school library and media center can
provide. The presentation focused on the flexibility and variety of
information sources that the school library affords students and members
of the community.

Librarian colleagues of FHS librarian Rose
Luna attended the presentation and later spoke with others from districts
throughout Nassau County to provide additional details about the
PowerPoint production that Freeport had delivered to the School Board. |

Ms. Luna cited noted educators' views that the quality of
a school's library has a direct relationship to the quality of the
school's academics. At the conclusion of the presentation, delivered by
the media specialist and Atkinson librarian, Margaux DelGuidice, librarians from other
districts met with the Freeport group to obtain additional information
about their presentation. In addition to Rose Luna and Margaux DelGuidice, the
librarians attending included Christine Meloni of Dodd, Mike Lizardi of
Atkinson, Deborah Bergen of Archer Street, Denise Loesel of Bayview
Avenue, Lisa Eisenberg of Giblyn and Mimi Bino of New Visions.
