| Thank you, Morlon Greenwood! Those are the words on the lips of Freeport High School athletes as practice sessions begin for the fall sports season. Greenwood is a former FHS football star who went pro, and while students are thanking him, he’s thanking Freeport High School . Now a linebacker with the NFL’s Houston Texans who spent four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Greenwood said he wanted to give back to the community and school that helped him become so successful. |

So, he donated $35,000 for a weight room with rows of shiny new weight machines located in the basement of the high school, where the Red Devils are already working out in preparation for the new season.
Last week, Greenwood returned to his alma mater to see the completed room with its recently installed equipment. The 1996 FHS graduate got a warm welcome from some football team members, and from football coach Russ Cellan, whom Morlon credits with his transformation from a soccer player to a football player in 11th grade. |

Accompanying Greenwood was another famed Freeport footballer—1999 FHS grad Clifton Smith, a linebacker for the Washington Redskins.
It’s a pattern. “All of our players come back to visit,” said Coach Cellan. |
