FHS WINS THE L.I. CHALLENGE

For Littlest Freeport Students,
100 Days of School = Math Milestone

Columbus Avenue students celebrated a mathematical milestone last week as the 100th day of school took place.

The festivities, complete with candles and singing, were only the icing on the cake, so to speak. The children have been counting up the days since September, and working on classroom projects, collecting and counting 100 paperclips, pictures, pennies or gumdrops, and grouping those collections into fives and tens, in preparation for the big day.

Columbus Avenue School students march and clap for 100 days of school.

Kindergarten teacher Catherine Byrne, right, and teacher assistant Siobhan Molloy wheel the cake into the Columbus Avenue School gym at the height of the celebration of 100 days of school.

It’s all part of the mathematical knowledge the children will build upon as they move forward through higher grades, presented in a format they won’t soon forget!
