Columbus Avenue students celebrated a mathematical milestone
last week as the 100th day of school took place.
The festivities, complete with candles and singing, were only the icing
on the cake, so to speak. The children have been counting up the days
since September, and working on classroom projects, collecting and counting
100 paperclips, pictures, pennies or gumdrops, and grouping those collections
into fives and tens, in preparation for the big day. |

Molloy wheel the cake into the Columbus Avenue School gym at the height
of the celebration of 100 days of school. |
It’s all part of the mathematical knowledge the children
will build upon as they move forward through higher grades, presented in
a format they won’t soon forget! |
