Caroline G. Atkinson School
sixth grader Elizabeth Mulé has
been selected as a Long Island Young Scholar of Mathematics by SUNY Old
Westbury’s Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and
Talent Students. Elizabeth is one of only 25 gifted students from throughout
Long Island to be chosen to attend Institute academic sessions for fifth
and sixth graders at the college during the coming school year.
Elizabeth will attend 20 Saturday creative problem-solving sessions.
The sessions are funded by alumni of the program, which was established
to improve the problem-solving skills of high-ability students as a contribution
to the pursuit of excellence in science and mathematics. During the year,
Elizabeth and her classmates will broaden their backgrounds in mathematics
and sharpen their thinking skills as they develop problem-solving ability.
Elizabeth was required to have a recommendation from her mathematics teacher,
submit a transcript of her grades and complete an entrance examination
administered on campus. |
