Outstanding Scholars Lead Freeport
High School Class Of 2006
|
Members of the Freeport High School graduating class of
2006 will assemble in their eye-catching traditional red and white caps
and gowns at Sunday, June 25 Commencement Exercises on George F. Emma
Field. They will be addressed by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eric L.
Eversley, FHS Principal Kimberlee Pierre and leaders of their class.
The outstanding class of 2006 has been offered close to $2 million
in scholarships and received acceptances from such prestigious colleges
and universities as Penn State, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, NYU, Temple,
Northeastern, Fordham, George Washington, Tuskegee and Syracuse. Freeport
seniors were accepted at the U.S. Air Force and Naval Academies, and
virtually every SUNY College and University. These colleges and universities
will benefit from the unique Freeport outlook and sensibility our students
carry with them. |

VALEDICTORIAN: SABRINA GERACI-YEE
|
Number
One in the Freeport High School Class of 2006 is Sabrina Geraci-Yee,
with a weighted average of 106.9! She will be attending Cornell University
in the fall, studying animal science and looking toward a career in
research—her favorite class at FHS was
Advanced Placement biology. Sabrina’s no-nonsense philosophy will
undoubtedly help her succeed in her future endeavors: “Do what
you have to do. Don’t stress; just do it!”

Sabrina, who has attended Freeport Schools since pre-K, is a well rounded
student who has many academic and extra-curricular accomplishments to
her credit.
Our valedictorian has been recognized on multiple occasions for her
work in Authentic Science Research and related competitions. She is a
peer tutor and president of Peer Leaders, and a past president of the
Student Government.
|
|
A member of the FHS Select Chorale and the Metropolitan
Youth Orchestra Chorale, Sabrina has also attended the Manhattan School
of Music Preparatory Pre-College. She even taught beginner and intermediate
saxophone for five years.
She volunteers as a Docent for the Long Beach Historical Society and
as a counselor at several music camps. Sabrina gives much credit to her parents for her academic success. “I
thank them for always being there, and pushing me to do my best,” she
says. |

SALUTATORIAN: STEVEN GIANACA
|
Steven Gianaca has earned
the second ranking in the Class of 2006, with a weighted average
of 106.8. Steven is headed to Hofstra University in the fall, where
he’ll study Graphic Art and Design
with the goal of becoming a graphic artist.
The excellence of Steven’s academic career at FHS is evident in
his accumulation of five advanced placement courses, not to mention earning
10 college credits—from Adelphi University and Nassau Community
College—before graduating from high school!
Academic activities have
accounted for a good deal of his extracurricular time as well. He
has been a Mathlete since 9th grade, and as a senior, he was team
captain for the “It’s Academic” competition
and a member of Freeport’s Long Island Challenge team. He’s
also a member of Peer Leaders, Key Club and the National Honor Society.
Steven is an AP Scholar with Honor, recipient of a Kodak Young Leaders
Scholarship, and was a group president at the National Young Leaders
Conference.
His favorite times at FHS
have been spent in the music department—especially
playing trumpet in the wind ensemble, marching band, jazz ensemble
and in the musical pit orchestra. He earned All-State music honors
this year.
|
Our salutatorian is a designated scholar-athlete,
having won the Coaches Award, and All-County, Division, Conference and
Long Island Honors as a member of the Varsity Co-ed Rifle team.
An Eagle Scout, Steven thanks his parents, brother, friends and teachers
for his many successes to date. |
