The
young people decorated the pinwheels with their ideas and aspirations
relating to peace—and collages
of visual images that represent those thoughts. The project was coordinated
by the district’s facilitator of art, Catherine Rode.
Freeport High School’s pinwheel project is part of a global,
grassroots peace project that was begun by two Florida art teachers
in 2005 to promote “whirled peace.”
This year, pinwheels were planted in 2,200 locations all over the world. |

FHS students Oulimata Ba, Maximillion Lorquet and Denesa Espinal
ponder the peace messages on pinwheels they created. |
