Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Eversley will receive the annual “Education Empowerment Award” from The Penny
Foundation at the organization’s annual awards dinner dance at
the Coral House in Baldwin, February 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Eversley is being cited by the group for
his “leadership and strong commitment to assuring a high-quality education
for every student in Freeport,” said Sheila Allen, founder and
president of the New Life Business Institute (NLBI) of Freeport, a technical
school which works with Penny Foundation grant recipients to help them
obtain skills and employment. |

The Penny Foundation is a nonprofit, community-based organization
established in 2003 to provide services to low-income, single parents.
In the past two years, the foundation has placed more than one hundred
low-income individuals in jobs primarily in the computer and medical
billing fields.
Allen said that the foundation, working with NLBI, “has helped
change the lives and the futures for many men and women in Nassau County,” and
said the dinner dance is the major fundraiser of the year for the foundation. |
