She is the 2006 Conference Chairman of the NYS Association
for Bilingual Education, and is herself bilingual in English and Spanish.
While in Long Beach, Villalba also acted as an alternate principal in
several elementary schools serving kindergarten through fifth grade.
She was responsible for diverse instructional programs, after school
programs, classroom support services, modification of the curriculum
to improve student performance, and supervision and evaluation of teachers.
Villalba was also very active in promoting parent involvement: she organized
monthly parent workshops in English and Spanish, coordinated parent orientation
for new students, surveyed parents to determine their interests and brought
parents to educational conferences.
From 1993-2000, Villalba taught grades pre-K through two in Freeport.
She was the elementary summer school principal for Archer Street and
Atkinson Schools in the year 2000. At Columbus Avenue School, she developed
monthly parent workshops, and parent/child workshops for families.
Villalba holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Old Westbury in
elementary education with a bilingual extension, and a master’s
degree in school administration from the College of New Rochelle. She
is an adjunct professor at Suffolk Community College. |
