High School Students Apply Table Etiquette And Nutrition Skills At Local Restaurant
|
| E
leven young women from Freeport High School enrolled
in the L.A.D.Y. (Lifetime Attributes for Developing Youth) program honed
their nutrition and table etiquette skills as they cooked and dined at
L.L. Dent Restaurant in Carle Place.
Under the direction of Leisa Dent, co-owner of the restaurant, the young
ladies participated in a nutrition seminar by planning and preparing
a nutritious meal. Then, as they enjoyed their culinary creations, they
applied what they had learned about manners and table etiquette from
Brenda Leotaud, a retired Home and Careers teacher from the Freeport
school district. The event was one of the many activities sponsored by
the L.A.D.Y. program at the high school.
“L.A.D.Y. is a voluntary organization designed to enhance self esteem
in female students,” said Jean Tucker, one of the staff coordinators
of L.A.D.Y. “Positive social skills are promoted in an effort to instill
healthful alternative behavior through social and business etiquette
training, personal health care, financial management, and appropriate
attire and body image.” |
