More than 20 Freeport High School
students were named Advanced Placement Scholars for the 2006-2007 academic
year after earning a score of 3 or better on multiple Advanced Placement
(AP) Exams.
The tests are administered to students who have taken
on a college-level course of study while still in high school. Upon completion,
they have the opportunity to receive college credit from most of the
country’s
colleges and universities. In Freeport, where twelve different
AP courses are offered, students have consistently graduated with credits
from higher institutions in subject areas such as biology, U. S. history,
foreign language, English and world history. Since the results of the
exams were released during the summer, many of the scholars on the following
list have already graduated—several continuing their education
at Ivy League schools.
Graduates Melvin Green and Beatriz
Lopez, as well as senior Allan Pacheco, earned the title of “Scholar with Distinction” by achieving
an average score of 3.5 or higher on all AP Exams and a grade of 3 or
higher on five or more of these exams. Graduates Michael Garcia and Nwamaka
Okobi, and seniors James Abbate, Dominic Irving and Michelle Mikolajczyk
were awarded the title of “Scholar with Honor” after scoring
an average of 3.25 or better on all AP Exams taken and a grade of 3 or
higher on four or more of these exams.

of these talented students,” said Kimberlee Pierre, principal of Freeport

level.”
Freeport Public Schools is
a diverse, innovative district on Long Island’s
South Shore serving about 6,750 students in grades Pre-K through 12.
The district and its eight schools take pride in having the region’s
only magnet schools of choice, a longstanding and award-winning classroom
English/Spanish Dual Language Program, and a high school where students
excel in competitions that include the regional Academic Challenge, Odyssey
