While demonstrating their mastery of math as mandated by the New York State curriculum, students at the Archer Street School raised close to $2,000 during their annual math-a-thon.
Encouraged by teachers and parents, the students eagerly tackled grade-appropriate booklets filled with addition, subtraction, multiplication and geometry problems.
“We are very proud of our students for working so hard on the math-a-thon,” said Math Specialist
Linda Marino. “We would also like to thank the parents for all the help and support they have given
their children during this program.”
This year’s grand prize winner is first-grader Ayana Austin who collected $345 and won a digital camera. Other students received certificates, t-shirts, tote bags or passes to Six Flags Great Adventure
in recognition for their hard work.
Proceeds from the math-a-thon will be donated to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. |
