Beaming grandparents and “special persons” were honored guests recently at New Visions Elementary School in Freeport. However, the decorative hearts and paper flowers bestowed on them didn’t disguise the event’s deeper purpose: student achievement. Research consistently shows that parent and family involvement is a major contributor to children’s success in school. |
“There were a lot of lessons learned,” says Principal Renee Crump. “Events like this help build a bridge between home and school, and children were excited about such projects as interviewing grandparents about their lives and writing reports that were shared with their classes.” |
