Four Freeport High
School students who attend the Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical
Education Center (Barry Tech) are putting their leadership
skills to work. They were recently elected officers of the
local SkillsUSA chapter.
SkillsUSA is national organization that serves
teachers, high school and college students preparing for careers
in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. The organization
serves more than 280,000 students and teachers annually and has
13,000 school chapters across the country.
Two slates of officers
were elected at Barry Tech — one representing the morning session and one representing
the afternoon session. Megan Gourdet, who studies Dental Assisting,
was elected Vice President of the a.m. session; Graphic Design
Donald Lovell will take on the role of Co-Vice President of the
p.m. session and Nurse Assisting students Zaleika Johnson and
Daniel Marquina — also of from the p.m. session — were
respectively elected Secretary and Treasurer.
"We are proud that these students are actively
engaging in their studies by taking on these positions of leadership,” said
James Clark, principal of Barry Tech. “It shows their dedication
and support of the Skills USA organization, and in their chosen
course of study.”
