Dr. Eric L. Eversley, superintendent of Freeport Schools, is a recipient of the 2007 Harvard Alumni Association Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the nation’s premier institution of higher learning. He was cited as a "principal educator, principled leader, and public servant [who has] made a difference in the lives of students and families across the country."
Dr. Eversley, who earned his doctorate in education from Harvard, served on the alumni association’s board of directors for more than a dozen years and was vice president for university-wide affairs. He also chaired the Alumni Council of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is a member of the Visiting Committee for Harvard College and sits on the Board of Directors for the Harvard Club of Long Island. |

An administrator and educator for nearly 40 years, the superintendent has been a leader for school districts in Minnesota, Colorado, Illinois and New York. Most recently, he was recognized by the Nassau County Music Educators Association as "Superintendent of the Year."
Dr. Eversley has often used his Harvard alumni activities to benefit Freeport youngsters—even those in middle school for whom college is years away. Representatives from Harvard annually participate in the district’s innovative Early College Awareness program with Dodd Middle School seventh graders, encouraging them to work hard, set their sights high and join the numerous Freeport High School graduates who have gained admission to the elite institution, most recently Daniel Okobi Jr., class of 2005. |
