Archer Street School’s Project Challenge students conveyed their knowledge of creating negatives using pinhole cameras, while the high school students demonstrated printing and enlarging photographs from negatives in the dark room.
The academic partnership bridged grade levels and abilities and created an environment of learning that was enjoyed by everyone, according to Project Challenge teacher Deborah La Corte and high school photography teacher Lloyd Burkett, Ph.D., coordinators of the event.
A letter written to the fourth-graders by one of the high school students encapsulated the feeling of the day, "Being with you was an incredible experience. I was as excited about helping you as you were about helping me…"
