The Village of Freeport is located in South Central
Nassau County, about 30 minutes east of Manhattan. Nassau County
is one of wealthiest counties in the nation. Described as a suburban
metropolis, if it were a city, Nassau County would rank as the nation's
sixth largest.
The Incorporated Village of Freeport has its own municipal government,
water and electric supply, police department, sanitation and highway
services, as well as one of the largest and finest volunteer fire
departments in the state.
Freeport, with 8.5 miles of scenic waterfront, is surrounded by
Long Island's vast resources: 1,600 miles of shoreline, more than
a 1,000 first rate restaurants, dozens of shopping centers, superior
medical facilities, hundreds of community libraries and museums
and gracious older homes.
Surrounded by institutions of higher learning, Freeport residents
enjoy the educational opportunities of Nassau Community College,
Hofstra University, Adelphi University and Molloy College. Nearby
are other educational institutions such as: Long Island University
at the C. W. Post Campus, New York Institute of Technology, SUNY
Old Westbury, SUNY Stony Brook, St. John's University, New York
University, Columbia University, and other New York City universities
and colleges.
