| Elementary
students at Archer Street Microsociety and Multimedia School in
the Freeport School District will hold the grand opening of their
own community park and reading center on Tuesday, June 19 at 9:30
a.m. After receiving a grant from Newsday and donations from local
businesses, Archer Street faculty and students will hold a ribbon
cutting ceremony outside of their school to commemorate their new
Archer Street OutdoorReading Center.
In preparation for the special day, three benches have been built
outside the Archer Street property. The center also comes equipped
with a bridge of knowledge and a garden that will continue to blossom
for many years. Business leaders and members of the community are
expected to be in attendance to help celebrate the occasion.
"This celebration continues Archer Street School's year-long
journey of reading as a priority," Archer Street Principal
Paula Lein said. "Our park will stand in the front of the building
as a place where members of the community can join classes in recreational
pursuits. This project will broaden the children's awareness of
Freeport citizens as active participants of the learning community."
