During the winter they were involved in curriculum
studies in the area of ornithology. A wildlife
sanctuary for the birds was created and manned.
Birdfeeder Productions housed in first and second
grade classrooms, manufactured bird feeders for
the hungry birds and logged their reflections
concerning the feeding habits of local wildlife.
Garden experts from third grade designed flowerbeds,
which eventually will provide vegetables and
herbs for local soup kitchens and flowers for
senior citizen centers. Home Depot, Audubon Society,
and Freeport School District’s Buildings and
Grounds Department have worked closely with students
on this community project.
