Freeport Board of Education Meeting celebrates board members and educators

The Freeport Public Schools Board of Education meeting on Oct. 16 was filled with celebrations. Hosted at the Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School, the meeting began with Superintendent of Schools Ms. Fia Davis recognizing School Board Appreciation Week and honoring the board of education for their efforts and dedication to the district.

“Our board members selflessly give their time to ensure our students, families and the Freeport community have the best opportunities,” said Superintendent Davis. “We thank you for all your service and unwavering support of the Freeport Schools.”

Following this, district administrators, union leaders and staff expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the board trustees and presented gifts and announced donations to various school scholarship funds that were made on behalf of the board.

Students from New Visions Elementary School paid tribute to School Board Recognition Week with the fourth grade glee club performing “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. Students then thanked the board for their service and presented them with framed artwork and an original poem written by New Visions students.

In addition to celebrating School Board Recognition Week, Superintendent Davis recognized the teachers and administrators who received tenure at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Ms. Davis presented the tenure recipients with a certificate and recognized them for their hard work and commitment to the students of Freeport Public Schools.

“Receiving tenure is a great acknowledgment of the district’s trust and value in you as an outstanding educator,” said Ms. Davis. “This is just the first step of many accomplishments yet to come in what we hope is a long and illustrious career at Freeport Public Schools.”

Thank you to the Freeport Board of Education for their service and to the educators who were recognized for receiving tenure.
