Freeport administrators celebrate Read Across America with elementary students
In celebration of Read Across America, administrators from Freeport Public Schools shared the joy of reading with students at Giblyn and New Visions elementary schools throughout the week of March 3-7. The annual event, which promotes literacy and encourages a lifelong love of books, allowed students to engage with school leaders in a meaningful and educational way.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fia P. Davis visited Giblyn Elementary and read the book “Me and My Afro” by Aiden M. Taylor to an excited group of second graders.

Joining Dr. Davis in this literacy initiative was Assistant Superintendent for Educational and Administrative Services Dr. Helen Kanellopoulos, who visited New Visions and read to two classrooms, engaging students in thoughtful discussions about their books. At Giblyn Elementary, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Ms. Glori Engel and Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Special Projects Mr. Ben Roberts brought stories to life for students, inspiring excitement and curiosity about reading.

Through these visits, Freeport’s administrators reinforced the importance of literacy, highlighting the district’s commitment to academic excellence. Read Across America continues to be a tradition in Freeport Public Schools, uniting educators, students, and the community in the shared mission of fostering a lifelong love of reading.
