Second grade students at New Visions had a special visit from Freeport High School students who led them in a lesson on communities — how they function, their structure and the important role citizens play in their success.
Members of the High School Heroes program joined the second grade classrooms, stepping into the role of educators, to guide the students through discussions on work readiness, how goods and services produce commerce, the flow of money through a community and the impact of civic engagement.
The learning experience helped students understand different career paths, essential job skills and basic financial concepts like earning and managing money.
High School Heroes is a business program for high school students that teaches them presentation and communication skills, commerce and other aspects of managing a business.
As the visit ended, both the high school students and second graders found the experience to be fun and fulfilling.
