Freeport receives national recognition for Best Communities for Music Education 2025

For the seventh consecutive year, Freeport Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education award presented by the National Association of Music Merchants.

            “It is a wonderful honor to be recognized once again for our dedication to music education,” said Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alice Kane. “The music program in our district inspires creativity and enriches the lives of our students through the nurturing of their talents and passion. The wide range of opportunities reflects our commitment to ensuring students receive a well-rounded education that values the arts as a crucial part to of their educational growth.”

            This national award program recognizes the outstanding support and commitment of administrators, teachers, students, parents and communities who have committed to making music education and appreciation an integral component of education. This annual national award is presented to school districts that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

            “I couldn’t be prouder of the music educators within our district. Year after year they continue to raise the bar and bring out the best in our students,” said Director of Arts and Community Relations Lynn Fusco. “Their passion and commitment are the driving force behind the success of our music program along with the steadfast support of our Board of Education, Central Administration and community.” 

            To qualify for the Best Communities designation, the district was required to answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by the leading arts educational research firm, WolfBrown.
