Full of energy and ready to run, the students of Freeport Public Schools’ Columbus Avenue School laced up their sneakers to celebrate Global Running Day on June 4.
Throughout the day, students took turns heading outside where they were challenged to run as many laps as they could during their designated time slots. Teachers helped track the number of laps by marking a popsicle stick each time a student completed a lap. At the end of the day, the sticks were collected to create a Global Running Day display in the school’s main hallway, showcasing the students’ efforts and schoolwide commitment to staying active.
“We look forward to Global Running Day each year,” said Principal Dr. Alma Rocha. “While the students have fun they are also learning that physical activity is a healthy habit that can benefit them their entire lives!”
Global Running Day is celebrated annually to encourage people of all ages and abilities to stay active and enjoy the physical and mental benefits of running.
