Super Spooky Summer Academy of the Arts Festival

This year’s Summer Arts Academy performance, themed Super Spooky Summer Academy of the Arts, was a spine-tingling showcase of dedication, enthusiasm and musical talents by more than 100 Freeport students.

The students attending the district’s free summer arts academy studied new music, perfected their instrumental skills and rehearsed a show that highlighted various types of fine arts often described as spooky.

With the auditorium of Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School dimly lit, members of the board of education, administrators, staff, families and community residents were visited by zombies, witches, wizards and other spooky creatures. The show included performances by the band, chorus, dance team, mariachi band, orchestra, step team and summer program interns. Students also performed skits showcasing the theatrical arts skills they learned during the academy. Another highlight of the program was the art exhibit and slideshow featuring artwork and sculptures created by students.

The Freeport School District has been recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation with the Best Communities for Music Education Award for the seventh consecutive year. This year’s Super Scary Summer Academy of the Arts performance is just one reason why the district is so deserving of this prestigious recognition.
