Bayview Avenue kicks off 19th annual Hooked on Firefighters program
For the 19th consecutive year, the third grade students at Freeport Public Schools’ Bayview Avenue are participating in the Hooked on Firefighters program, which kicked off on Oct. 10. The program, running from fall to spring, offers students a unique opportunity to learn about fire safety directly from Freeport Village firefighters.

Each third grade class is paired with a firefighter who will visit their classroom throughout the year to teach important lessons on fire prevention and safety through presentations, demonstrations and interactive activities.

The program's kickoff event gave students the chance to meet their assigned firefighter, tour a firetruck, explore its various components and ask questions about fire safety.

When the program concludes in the spring, the students will take an exciting field trip to the Nassau County Firefighters Museum, accompanied by members of the Freeport Village Fire Department, to deepen understanding of fire safety and prevention.

This long-running program is a highlight for Bayview Avenue School’s third graders, fostering both education and community engagement.
