As students of all ages walked through the doors of their school buildings on Sept. 5 there was a sense of heightened excitement and enthusiasm about the start of a new school year. For many, the first day of school is as celebratory an occasion as New Year’s Day.
Administrators, teachers and staff shared the students’ excitement ready to focus on this year’s academic goals and the numerous initiatives the district has planned for the 2023-2024 school year. The 2023-2024 school year promises to be year of growth and even greater achievements.
In each school the atmosphere was filled with optimism for a successful year of fun and learning. The students were warmly greeted by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham, Board of Education President Maria Jordan-Awalom, administrators, building principals, teachers and friends.
Dr. Kuncham, Freeport High School Principal Ms. Gisselle Campbell Ham and Ms. Jordan-Awalom greeted students and new freshmen, while teachers and assistant principals helped students find their homerooms before starting classes for the day.
Freeport’s kindergartners at Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Education Center happily started their first day by meeting their teachers and new friends, working on projects and learning the importance of classroom rules. Throughout the day, Principal Dr. Alma Rocha visited the classrooms to warmly welcome the district’s littlest learners to school and speak about the exciting year of learning ahead.
Leo F. Giblyn Elementary School was filled with laughter and positive energy as Dr. Kuncham and principal Amy Lederer personally greeted students as they happily entered the school excited to be there to reconnect with friends and eager to start a new year of learning.
Freeport Public Schools welcomes all students back to school and reminds the entire Freeport community that they are all true changemakers.
