Freeport High School’s Performing Arts Center was filled with pride as the High School’s National Honor Society welcomed 115 new inductees to the organization at their annual National Honor Society induction ceremony.
Adviser Brianne Underwood welcomed guests to the ceremony, followed by the presentation of colors by the Freeport High School NJROTC.
Superintendent of Schools Ms. Fia Davis addressed the new inductees reminding them of their extraordinary academic efforts.
“It is my honor to be here. It is my first induction with Freeport and when I look at how many of our scholars have chosen excellence, I see you have chosen to be the best among our high school, so I want to celebrate you,” she said. “Life is about choices, you get to choose whether you will be excellent or a failure, you get to choose whether you will be the best and smartest in the room. The outcome is yours to decide. I want to thank you for choosing academic excellence. Congratulations on your induction.”
The National Honor Society officers, President David de la Llera, Vice President Elsy Soriano, Secretary Nadja Salome-Diaz, Treasurer Maliah Farmer, Student Liaison Leah Awalom and Director of Community Service Angelina Monroy spoke about the four pillars of the National Honor Society — character, scholarship, leadership and service— and the importance of upholding these pillars as new inductees.
The traditional National Honor Society candle lighting ceremony was held soon after, and Freeport High School Principal, Ms. Gisselle Campbell-Ham, and Honor Society President David de la Llera presented the inductees with a medal to represent their newly achieved membership into the National Honor Society.
