June board meeting celebrates employees
The Freeport Board of Education meeting on June 25 was full of celebration for the remarkable employees honored during the district’s annual Celebrating Success Employee Recognition.

The employees were recognized for their behaviors and values that helped to positively advance the district and contribute to the goals and objectives of the district, individual school, work unit or to acknowledge outstanding individual accomplishments.  The school principals introduced the recipients and then presented each of them with a celebratory plaque.

We are proud to recognize the achievements of this year’s Celebrating Success honorees. Your exemplary leadership and dedication to our schools make you outstanding role models,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham. “We are so grateful for the inspiring contributions you make to our Freeport School community.

This year’s honorees were Elizabeth Williamson, Columbus Avenue; Maricel Peon-Farrell, Archer Street; Yvette Ramos-Goldstein, Bayview Avenue; Ashley Hicks, Leo F. Giblyn; Lisa Drury-Cruz, New Visions; Carrie Frederick-Muchnik, Atkinson Intermediate School; Vashti Burke, J.W. Dodd and Joshua Levitt, Freeport High School.

The board then presented their own Celebrating Success award to Dr. Kuncham for his years of dedicated service to the district. Before presenting him with a plaque, each trustee congratulated him on his retirement and shared memories and thoughts of his contributions.

“Your legacy in the Freeport school community will be felt for years to come, Dr. Kuncham. As we reflect on the dedication and service you have given, we are overcome with gratitude,” said Board President Maria Jordan-Awalom. “You have been a role model, a mentor and a friend, and your positive influence will be felt for many years to come. As a parent, I thank you for choosing our children to fight for. Your tireless efforts to ensure the success of our students have not gone unnoticed and I am proud to have been able to work alongside you.”

The board also announced 28 staff members receiving tenure status including Leo F. Giblyn Principal Amy Lederer.

At the meeting, the Archer Street School kindergarten students performed two songs for those in attendance.
