Freeport Student-Musicians Heading to NYSSMA All-State Festival
Freeport Schools is excited to announce that eight talented student musicians from Freeport High School will be heading to the NYSSMA All-State Festival in Rochester from Dec. 5-8.

Under the guidance of chorale director Monique Retzlaff, the following students were selected for the 2024 All-State Mixed Chorus: seniors Tamara Crawford, Ashley Retzlaff and Brandon Velasquez. Additionally, senior Lourdes Saunders-Blake has been selected for the 2024 Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Three students also qualified as alternates for the festival. They are seniors Ian Christensen and Ellis Jackson for voice, along with junior Carlos Gomez Morrobel for tuba.

In a significant milestone for the district, sophomore Nicolas Pereira has been selected for the Young Composers Honors Concert, making him the first Freeport High School student to participate in this event. Nicolas’ original composition, “Adagietto” was written for full orchestra and will be performed among 10 other original works during the concert Dec. 6.

Freeport Public Schools would like to congratulate all the students on their musical achievements and wish those attending the festival in December the best of luck.
