Atkinson’s Mission Statement
The Atkinson School Community believes that all students can and will meet standards of excellence. The school is committed to developing a partnership with families to ensure children’s cognitive, social, and creative growth. The Atkinson School Community is committed to creating an environment which will nurture a child’s desire to become a life long learner by engaging students in productive activities.
Principal’s Message:
Welcome to Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School, where 5th and 6th grade Freeport students rise to high expectations and become independent thinkers. Our students learn in a rigorous, diverse and multicultural environment which prepares them to be successful, upstanding citizens and career and college ready.
Atkinson School’s academic focus is aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards. Our wide-ranging curricula afford a strong foundation for students’ emergence into the higher grades. Not only are Atkinson students exposed to challenging academics, but they are encouraged to celebrate their skills and talents outside the classroom as well. Students nurture their talents through the Arts and inclusive clubs like: Band and Mariachi, Orchestra, Chorus and Select Coral, Step and Drill Team, Drama Club, Odyssey of the Mind, Mathletes, Liberty Program, Future Problem Solving, the Atkinson Afterschool Program, and Enrichment to Excellence (E2E) Extended School Day Grant.
We believe in success through partnership. Communication between school and home is vital in the success of the whole child. By working closely with the PTA and pioneering Grupo de Padres, we are able to keep parents informed of upcoming events, important dates and issues.
Wonderful things are happening at Atkinson! Students participate in the annual Hispanic Heritage assembly, 5th Grade Sports Night, winter and spring Festival of the Arts, Family Fun Night, Career Day, Field Day, 6th Grade Moving Up Ceremony, and 6th Grade Talent Show. The Atkinson community promotes a spirited environment for student learning and overall success.
