Art Department Course Offerings

The Freeport School District's Arts Department affords all students the opportunity to study music and visual arts. The vision of Freeport Public Schools is to inspire in all the desire to learn and succeed. Our schools will be safe learning communities that celebrate our achievements and encourage active partnerships with families and the entire community. We will empower students to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Our Freeport Arts programs align to the new New York State Standards for the Arts, which are designed on the following artistic processes: Creating, Presenting/Performing/Producing, Responding and Connecting. The NYS Standards for the Arts includes five disciplines, and our arts curricula proudly provides students with opportunities to experience each: Music, Visual Art, Media Art, Dance and Theater.

Freeport High School's Fine and Performing Arts programs prepare students for life-long artistic literacy in the Arts and/or the ability to pursue professional studies in an Arts college program. Students have varied course offerings to choose from, inclusive of Advanced Placement classes in Music Theory and Art History.

Students enrolled in the Visual and Media Arts display their work throughout the community in annual winter and spring festivals of the Arts, as well as participate in festivals, competitions through the Art Supervisors Association All County Art Exhibit, and gallery shows at the state and national levels.

Students enrolled in music are provided with solo and ensemble performance opportunities in annual winter and spring festivals of the Arts, in addition to music festivals sponsored by the New York State School Music Association, and the Nassau Music Educators Association.

Freeport High School Arts students have a variety of extra-curricular opportunities available to them including Art Club, Musical Theater, Jazz Band, Brass Ensemble, Colorguard and Kickline, Ninth Grade Select Chorus, and Marching Band.
