Spring arts festivals at Bayview and Giblyn

Smiling faces filled the auditoriums of Bayview Avenue and Leo F. Giblyn elementary schools as both schools held their annual Spring Festival of the Arts. Students showcased their talents in band, orchestra and chorus, earning standing ovations for their polished performances and hard work throughout the school year.

At Bayview Avenue School, the festival opened with a student-led skit reminding the audience that learning to sing and play an instrument takes time, dedication and consistent practice. The orchestra performed four selections, including the familiar “Shortnin’ Bread.” The Bayview Balladeers followed with two vocal pieces, and the band played four energetic selections under the direction of music teacher Paul Giorlando. The program concluded with the Bayview Avenue Chorus performing “Heroes and Dreamers” by Pinkzebra, featuring beautiful two-part harmonies and a message of inspiration and empowerment.

At Leo F. Giblyn Elementary School, students took the audience on a musical journey through their learning. The band, led by music teacher Dylan Newshan, performed four selections, including “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay. The orchestra followed with a strong performance, and the chorus closed the event with three songs, including a crowd favorite, “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield.

Both events were a testament to the strength of the Freeport School District’s music program and highlighted the dedication of its students and staff.
